Although the name might be unfamiliar to you, Helen Kimberly is well known to us who come to evening services.  She is a “Local Preacher in Training” and will come with 3 assistance dogs. Helen is a woman who loves the Lord, knows her scriptures, and we have always had a blessed time of worship together in the evenings. Don’t be concerned about the dogs - they will be settled on blankets around her as she leads the service.

Prayer.  Thank you Lord that Brenton is back with us. Keep him in good health as he returns to serve the Circuit and his three Churches.  Be with Angela after the death of Denis last week.    Grant her peace of mind and comfort her.  From our Thursday prayer time we remember our Circuit Ministers and all those lay people who have stepped forward to help in these difficult times. Please pray for Barbara as she cares for Vic, and all those know to us who are having cancer treatment. (Michael, Chris and Debbie, Julia and Caroline)  Please also pray for a timely operation date for Ann W (from Connect and Coffee morning) and bless her with good health as she awaits that date.

Circuit Meeting

At the meeting on Wednesday, the Circuit Trustees voted overwhelmingly to continue the discussion, and planning the move to a hub system. With only a small number of Ministers and 15 Churches that seemed to be the only option, but it is up to us to shape the future.  There are no hard and fast rules about how this should be put into practice.  The immediate financial crisis has been averted with cost cutting and careful budgeting, which gives us a breathing space to talk and explore the move to a more sustainable future for the Methodist Church - to do what we have been called to do, sharing the gospel and making disciples.  How we do that is up to us!

OVERSEAS MISSIONS: Crownhill, 6.45-8 p.m. Wednesday May 1st:

Great opportunity if you are free!  Six of us from Compton were at the highly inspiring unity meeting at St Andrews on Thursday, and there is a lovely meeting* at the same venue on Saturday week, May 4th. Beginning at 7.30 it is an evening of music and stories of lives changed by faith. *we have been before. You can get tickets £5 (concessions £2) from St Andrews. We could get tickets for folk if you prefer. Hope to provide transport as well, Terry and Gill (262 600)

Plympton Food bank

This week has been “National Pet's Day.” When times are difficult your pet makes all the difference, especially if they are therapy or assistance pets.

Following on from Brenda’s Food Bank note above, could I share something I saw on the TV this morning.  For all of you who have a cat as a pet, from 10th June all cats need to be microchipped, and there is a hefty fine for non compliance.

To all Circuit Trustees, from Saffie Edwards, Circuit Administrator

This is your call to an upcoming Extraordinary Circuit Meeting on 17th April 2024 at Ridgeway Methodist Church from 7.30pm.  I hope that you do not mind my request that you do try to attend if possible, especially when important decisions may be made based on votes that are taken at these meetings.  These decisions could have a huge effect on the Circuit and the Churches within it.

Annual Unity Service is at St Andrews on Thursday 18th April. It has as its theme

STEPPING FORWARD. The service begins at  7 p.m.  Please make this a priority because it is what Jesus specifically asked us to engage in, to be ONE people. If you normally have fellowship on a Thursday evening, or similar activity please encourage all of them to come.   Terry

Mercy Ships.

It was good to read about the work of the Mercy Ships in “Our Daily Bread” this week.  The bible study on 10th April told the story of Genevieve, a mother from the Republic of Benin in Western Africa whose 3 children had been born with congenital cataracts.  She was helped by the charity “The mercy Ships” and after corrective surgery, all 3 children could see.  Praise the Lord for the doctors and nurses who give their time to do this amazing work!

Dear friends,

A big thank you once again to all contributors to the Easter Craft Stall, for those who made the gorgeous cardigans, toys and novelties and to all of you who bought them and supported it. We managed to raise £270 which will be sent to the Charity Mercy Ships. We are hoping, in the near future, to have someone to come and talk about its mission, so we can realise what our donation has helped with.

Thank you all.

Do you read “Our Daily Bread?”  Yesterday’s reading was Genesis 15: 1 - 5, and spoke of God’s promise to Abraham that he would have more descendants than the number of stars in the sky.  The writer challenged us to consider if our requests to God were not too big, BUT TOO SMALL!  Thinking about our Circuit, perhaps we should be thinking bigger and bolder.  What has God got planned!
